Assistant secretary of the Department of Health (DOH)shared a sad news on his twitter amid the Dengvaxia controversy: an “unvaccinated” child just died due to severe dengue.
A seven-year-old girl who has not been vaccinated by anti-dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia, died of dengue, Tuesday morning.
In tweet of Dr. Eric Tayag, Department of Health’s assistant secretary for policy and health systems, said that severe dengue hit the child.
Yesterday while the senate was unearthing facts to sort out the #dengvaxia debacle, I prayed hard so that a 7 year old girl I visited in a hospital will recover from organ failure due to severe #dengue She was unvaccinated She died early today I’m#stopDengue— Doc Eric Tayag (@erictayagSays) December 11, 2017
He said that while he was watching the Senate blue ribbon committee’s hearing on the P3.5-billion Dengvaxia deal between the government and Sanofi Pasteur, he visited the six-year-old at the hospital on Monday.
Her body organ was damaged due to severe dengue and died earlier this morning.
The said child has never received an anti-dengue vaccine.
Based on DOH’s previous campaign, Dengvaxia is given to children aged 9 years and over.
Tayag did not mention where the child died.
